The Symbolic Frame The Symbolic Frame "centers on complexity and ambiguity and emphasizes the idea that symbols mediate the meaning of work," (Bolman and Deal, 2017. Pg. 263). Myths, values, and visions are used to identify the brand or organization. Symbols are easily recognizable and powerful. Rituals and ceremonies can energize and excite workers about the future of the organization. Building strong teams should remain at the center of the manager's priorities. Workplace culture has the ability to inspire and motivate, as well as, create an atmosphere that people don't want to be a part of. Having a positive workplace culture is vital for the success of the organization. Symbolic Case Analysis
Reflection When asked, why have you stayed at Starbucks for so long? The answer has always been simple: the people and the culture. I've always enjoyed working in a collaborative and inclusive environment and wanted to replicate that sense of community within my own team. The Symbolic Frame served as a great reminder to keep the people and the culture at the top of my priority list. The frame has helped me understand how to combine company culture with organizational structure. I see now how the 4 frames all align together.
